The plains around Dingri are dotted with the ruins of fortresses built a few hundred years ago when the Nepalese staged a short-lived invasion of Tibet. Considering I was a month's walk from Lhasa, they clearly didn't get too far.
However, I was glad they got exactly as far as they did because this fort made a perfect campsite. Situated about 300' up on a hill, it afforded both protection from the wind and a lofty perch while I ate my dinner, set up camp and watched the sun set behind the mountains.
