By the time I reached the Himalayas, I'd refined my walking system of eating, drinking and resting and could cover far more miles each day than when I started.

Good thing, too, because by the time I reached this point at the 17,000' pass of Yarle Shung La, the distances, terrain and climate were far more challenging than when I started out from Lhasa a month earlier.
